Read and spell words
Investigate relationships among spelling, pronunciation, word structure, and meaning, with explicit teaching and supported practice suited to your current knowledge.
Lokahi Connect offers individualized online literacy instruction and educational therapy for adults, including adults with dyslexia. Work toward your own reading, spelling, comprehension, and writing goals with Stephanie Steinshouer.
Your goals and experience belong at the center. Begin with a free 30-minute online consultation to discuss your questions and whether this support fits.
A goal can come from everyday life, work, study, or an interest you want to pursue. You can bring a specific task or explore a goal together.

Work with vocabulary, sentence relationships, and connected text. Compare interpretations and look for evidence in the wording and context.
Plan, draft, and revise writing for a purpose that matters to you. Conversation, typing, visible planning, or another way of responding can help you express your ideas.
Your questions, strengths, language experience, and previous learning all help shape the support. You do not need a diagnosis to ask about a goal.
Instruction draws on Structured Literacy: explicit, systematic teaching of oral and written language, with practice and review adjusted to the learner. Within the Lokahi WORD Project, language inquiry connects spelling, morphology, pronunciation, grammar, meaning, and context. No single activity or fixed order defines every session.
You can discuss what has and has not helped before, choose meaningful goals, and ask for a different way to participate. Together, we can discuss pacing, session length, print size, ways to respond, and how to make the technology manageable.
We review progress together by looking at your work, your observations, and how you use ideas in new situations. We also notice which supports help and adjust the plan as needed.
The initial 30-minute online consultation is free, with no obligation to enroll. Instruction is arranged separately. Stephanie confirms scheduling and fit personally by email.

Educational planning when appropriate. Agree on activities, time, written deliverables, and any feedback meeting before purchase. This is not a diagnostic evaluation.
Sessions use a reliable internet connection and a computer with a camera and microphone. Discuss participation and access needs before committing. Stephanie confirms the meeting link, materials, session frequency, and what preparation or between-session communication is included. Additional work and any fee are agreed in advance.
Lokahi Connect welcomes adult inquiries from Maui and elsewhere in Hawaiʻi, Bainbridge Island, Washington, and other locations. Current sessions are online; availability and time-zone fit are confirmed individually. Financial aid may be available depending on funding.
Yes. You can ask about reading, spelling, comprehension, or writing support without naming a diagnosis. Describe your goal or the task you want help with. A consultation explores educational fit; it does not diagnose dyslexia.
Your interests, experience, and goals guide the choice of work. Foundational language concepts can be taught explicitly using content appropriate to your age and interests. The starting point and supports are individualized rather than inferred from your age or a diagnostic label.
Lokahi Connect’s current services provide educational instruction and planning, not clinical diagnosis, speech-language pathology, or occupational therapy. If you need an evaluation or documentation for college or work, confirm the receiving institution’s requirements and the appropriate qualified professional. See the teen and adult resource guidance.
Your name, contact details, and permission to reply are enough. You may also share a general goal and your time zone. Please leave diagnoses, evaluations, other people’s identifying information, and confidential workplace documents out of the inquiry. Stephanie can arrange a suitable way to share records later.
An inquiry does not reserve an appointment, enroll you, or commit you to a purchase. How inquiries are handled.
